A Taste of Spring

Spring gave us a welcomed tease this weekend with sunny skies and temps around 60. We took a walk to the neighborhood playground and played in the backyard. It was so wonderful not bundling up in winter coats. Temperatures are back in the 40s now, but we loved the break! After taking pictures all weekend, I realized that there was a smudge on the lens, so most of the pictures have a blurry spot.

Taking a little breather.
***Although it looks like it, our grass is not dead. It is a type of grass that goes dormant in the winter and turns a very ugly shade of yellow. It is not at all attractive, but most people have this type of grass in our area because it is drought resistant. Can you tell how much I like it?

Happy Mardi Gras!

In celebration of Mardi Gras, I made red beans and rice for dinner and beignets for dessert. Beignets are a huge mess to make, but so very worth it. I thought Max would enjoy this special treat, but he really wasn't interested in them. Sometimes I wonder if he has any of my DNA...
Who doesn't like fried dough covered in powdered sugar? Max.

Little Love Bug

Max helped me make cookies for Valentine's Day this year. He likes watching me in the kitchen and he really likes when it involves icing and sprinkles.
Who's ready to bake cookies?
Watching me cut out the dough. I tried to get him to help me, but that would have involved putting down the spatulas, which are really just fancy sticks.
We baked the cookies on Saturday and decorated them on Sunday morning.
Max loved putting the sprinkles on the cookies. Max was a little heavy handed with the red hots.
This "special" cookie is for Daddy.
Time for a taste test.
This final picture has nothing to do with cookies.
It's just Max showing off one of the many uses for macaroni and cheese.
